The HTA grew out of the Hospitality Diversity Task Force, a panel of industry, community and labor leaders established in 2006 to promote opportunities for African American workers in Los Angeles’ top hotels and food service companies. Since then, the HTA has provided marginalized, underserved populations with access to state-of-the-art training and registered apprenticeship programs leading to union jobs with family-sustaining wages, benefits, career advancement opportunities, and a road to the middle-class. The HTA’s U.S. Department of Labor and State of California-approved registered apprenticeship programs are nationally recognized for giving unemployed and laid-off workers, low-income populations, individuals experiencing homelessness, the housing insecure, justice-involved individuals, survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, single parents, veterans, military spouses, English language learners, and job seekers with a variety of barriers to employment, the skills needed to secure and retain employment in a high-growth industry sector while providing major employers with a pool of highly-skilled, work-ready talent.
